Hideki Konno, a longtime Nintendo producer and designer, appears to have quietly left the company after nearly 40 years. This is according to a Famiboards post based on recent changes noticed by fans and community members.
Konno joined Nintendo in 1986 and was involved in a wide range of projects across the company’s history. His work spans major franchises including Mario Kart, Luigi’s Mansion, and Nintendogs, as well as Nintendo’s more recent mobile titles such as Miitomo, Super Mario Run, Dr. Mario World, and Animal Crossing: Pocket Camp.
What Fans Have Noticed
The possible departure came to light after fans noticed that Konno’s public profiles no longer list an active role at Nintendo. A post shared on his official Facebook page in Japan also suggests that he may have stepped away from the company, though Nintendo has not issued a formal announcement confirming his status.
As of now, Konno’s name does not appear attached to any current Nintendo projects, and there has been no public statement outlining a transition or retirement.
A Long Career at Nintendo
Over the course of his career, Konno played a key role in shaping some of Nintendo’s most recognizable series. In later years, he served as General Producer for Nintendo’s mobile efforts, overseeing titles that brought the company’s franchises to smartphones for the first time.
His work spanned multiple eras at Nintendo, from early console development to mobile-focused releases, making his career one of the longer-running ones within the company.
