If you're an Ecco the Dolphin fan like me, you are going to love this news. The world needs Ecco the Dolphin. A&R Atelier has announced that Ecco the Dolphin is officially returning, confirming that multiple new games and related projects are currently in development.
Ecco the Dolphin was doing its own thing back in 1992 on the Sega Genesis. The movement, the music, and the way the game flowed made it feel different from most of what people were playing. If you played it, you probably remember the way it played more than anything else.
A Return Led By The Original Creator
The announcement includes involvement from Ed Annunziata, the original creator of Ecco the Dolphin, who now serves as Chief Creative Officer at A&R Atelier. In the release, Annunziata described Ecco as more than a game about a dolphin, framing the character as a bridge between worlds.
That continuity matters, especially for a series where tone, music, and mood were always central to the experience.

Multiple New Projects Are Planned
A&R Atelier says several new Ecco the Dolphin products and games are currently in development, with more information and partnership updates planned for the official website as details unfold.
While no platforms or timelines have been announced yet, the confirmation that multiple projects are underway signals a broader revival rather than a single standalone return.
Updates will be shared through the official site here: EccoTheDolphin.com.
An Official Discord Community Is Now Live
Alongside the development announcement, A&R Atelier has launched an official Ecco the Dolphin Discord server. The studio says the server will act as a community hub, with exclusive updates, behind-the-scenes content, and early looks at what’s coming.
The launch of a dedicated community space suggests this revival is being treated as an ongoing conversation with fans, not just a one-time announcement.
A Meaningful Return For Longtime Fans
For me, Ecco the Dolphin has always been about exploration and discovery. I’ve played the series over the years, but Ecco the Dolphin: Defender of the Future on Dreamcast is the one that really stuck with me. It took what worked in Ecco the Dolphin and Ecco: The Tides of Time and opened everything up. The movement felt smoother, the spaces felt bigger, and just swimming around and seeing what you’d find next was a huge part of the appeal.
This announcement builds on earlier comments from series creator Ed Annunziata, who previously indicated that remasters and a new Ecco title were in development.
Knowing the original creators are directly involved, and that multiple new Ecco games and related projects are actively in development, makes this return exciting in a very real way. Not because it’s a nostalgia play, but because there’s a chance to bring that feeling back.
If these new games can capture that sense of scale, flow, and discovery that defined Ecco at its best, there’s something here that could really connect with longtime fans and new players alike.
