SQUARE ENIX has shared new details for DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined, a visually reimagined version of DRAGON QUEST VII: Fragments of the Forgotten Past. The remake launches on February 5, 2026, for Nintendo Switch 2, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC.

The newly shared details focus on expanded RPG features, including a deeper vocation structure, a new Moonlighting option for advanced classes, and optional high-difficulty enemies that reward powerful customization items.

Expanded Vocation System

DRAGON QUEST VII Reimagined introduces a more structured approach to vocations. Each character now begins with a starter vocation, giving party members clearer roles early in the adventure instead of starting from a blank slate.

There are 10 beginner vocations, with progression paths that lead into intermediate and advanced vocations once certain requirements are met. Higher-tier options like Hero and Druid unlock stronger spells and abilities, but reaching them requires long-term planning rather than quick class changes.

The system encourages sticking with characters and thinking ahead about how each role develops over time.

Moonlighting and Hybrid Builds

Once advanced vocations are unlocked, a new Moonlighting feature allows characters to equip two advanced vocations at the same time. This opens the door to hybrid builds and more flexible party setups.

Moonlighting creates new combinations that weren’t possible in the original release, giving you more freedom to mix abilities and adapt as encounters become more demanding.

Vicious Monsters and Monster Hearts

Optional enemies known as Vicious Monsters are also highlighted in the update. These powerful foes are marked by a distinctive aura and are meant to challenge well-prepared parties.

Defeating Vicious Monsters rewards monster hearts, which can be equipped as accessories. These offer rare effects, giving you a reason to seek out tougher fights rather than avoid them.

Demo Available Now

A free demo is available now on all platforms, allowing you to experience the opening portion of the game. Progress carries over to the full release, and completing the demo unlocks a cosmetic outfit for Maribel.

This update feels built for people who enjoy digging into the game over time. Between the expanded vocations, Moonlighting builds, and optional Vicious Monsters, there’s more room to experiment once you’re deeper in.
