By Jon Scarr
Bandai Namco has revealed a brand-new Dragon Ball game called Dragon Ball: Age 1000, with a planned release window set for 2027. The announcement was made during the Dragon Ball Genkidamatsuri event, offering an early look at what appears to be an entirely new chapter in the franchise.
While details are still limited, but one thing is clear early on. The project introduces a completely new Dragon Ball world along with original characters designed by Akira Toriyama.
A New Dragon Ball Era Begins
According to Bandai Namco, Age 1000 takes place in a previously unseen era of the Dragon Ball universe. The reveal trailer introduces a brand-new character created by Toriyama, giving fans a first glimpse at the direction this new storyline may take.
Rather than revisiting familiar arcs or retelling known stories, the project appears focused on expanding the Dragon Ball world in a meaningful way. It’s a rare move for the series, especially in games, where most entries traditionally revisit well-known sagas.
For longtime fans, that alone makes Age 1000 worth paying attention to.
What We Know So Far
Bandai Namco has confirmed that Dragon Ball: Age 1000 will introduce:
- An entirely new Dragon Ball world
- Original characters designed by Akira Toriyama
- A story set far beyond previous Dragon Ball timelines
- A planned release window of 2027
Beyond that, specifics around gameplay, platforms, and genre have not yet been revealed. Those details are expected to be shared later this year.
More Details Coming at Battle Hour 2026
Bandai Namco confirmed that more information on Age 1000 will be shared during Dragon Ball Games Battle Hour 2026, which takes place in Los Angeles on April 18–19, 2026.
The annual event will also feature tournaments and updates for existing Dragon Ball titles, including Dragon Ball FighterZ and the Dragon Ball Super Card Game. If Age 1000 is going to get a deeper reveal, this is likely where it will happen.
A Different Direction for Dragon Ball Games
What makes Age 1000 interesting is that it’s willing to move forward instead of looping back. A lot of Dragon Ball games revisit the same arcs or rework familiar moments, so getting something built around a new era feels like a welcome change.
This project already feels different. A new setting, new characters, and direct creative input from Toriyama point to Bandai Namco trying something that isn’t just another retelling. It’s still clearly Dragon Ball, but it isn’t relying on nostalgia alone to carry it.
With a 2027 release window, there’s plenty of time before we see how it all comes together. Still, this early reveal puts Dragon Ball: Age 1000 on the radar as one of the more interesting Dragon Ball projects in development right now.
