By Jon Scarr
Capital Underdogs has officially introduced itself as a new competitive presence in the Pokémon VGC scene, with a focus on developing talent while staying active at a high level of play.
Founded in Italy in August 2021 by Italian VGC professional player Alessio Fuscà, also known as NikyuAlex, the team says it has spent the last few years building toward a bigger presence in the scene. In that time, Capital Underdogs has highlighted several milestones, including being the first Italian team to win the Desafio VCL, partnering with esports organization e-Parrots from 2023 to 2025, and becoming the first Italian team to sign a Pokémon VGC World Champion.
A Team Built Around Experience and Up-and-Coming Talent
Capital Underdogs describes its approach as a mix of established competitors and emerging players, built around collaboration and long-term improvement rather than only chasing short-term results.
That balance is reflected in the team’s colours: black, gold, and white. Black represents players who are still building their name, gold represents those who have already reached a high competitive level, and white represents the shared space where both groups can learn and improve together.
The team’s logo also features a red wolf’s eye, which the organization says represents the drive and passion that pushes players to keep improving, regardless of the size of the event.
Leadership and What Comes Next
At the moment, the only member officially confirmed is Alessio “NikyuAlex” Fuscà, who serves as team captain. Capital Underdogs says additional members will be revealed soon, with a mix of newer faces and well-known names expected as the roster is announced publicly.
The team also says its long-term goal is to create an environment where experienced competitors help develop the next wave of VGC talent, while still taking competition seriously and staying active across the circuit.
