Lionsgate has officially confirmed that a AAA John Wick video game is in development, with a full announcement expected in the near future. The confirmation came during the company’s Q2 2026 earnings call, where Motion Picture Group chair Adam Fogelson spoke about the studio’s growing focus on interactive entertainment and licensing opportunities tied to its film franchises.

During the call, Fogelson directly referenced upcoming AAA game projects connected to John Wick and Saw, confirming that both franchises are part of Lionsgate’s next wave of high-budget gaming initiatives, with multiple announcements coming soon. While rumours of a large-scale John Wick game have circulated for years, this marks the clearest confirmation yet that a major, big-budget production is actively moving forward.

Lionsgate described these projects as “AAA game opportunities,” signaling that they are intended to be full-scale releases rather than smaller experimental titles. Although no developer or publisher has been publicly announced, the language used strongly suggests a high-budget approach with production values comparable to major blockbuster games.

What We Know So Far About the John Wick Game

While John Wick has appeared in games before, it has never been at this scale. The most notable prior adaptation, John Wick Hex, took a tactical, turn-based approach rather than aiming to recreate the films’ real-time, choreographed action. It was well received for its ideas, but it was never designed to deliver a fully cinematic John Wick experience.

This upcoming project is expected to be a much bigger step forward. Lionsgate has positioned it as a flagship AAA release, suggesting a focus on higher production values, fluid combat, and a more immersive take on the John Wick universe. What form that takes remains unclear, as the studio has not shared gameplay details or confirmed whether the game will be open-ended or more linear in structure.

Story details are also being kept under wraps, though industry chatter suggests the game may feature an original storyline rather than a direct adaptation of the films. That approach would allow developers to explore more of the criminal underworld only briefly seen on screen. It’s also unknown whether Keanu Reeves will be directly involved. Reeves has prior experience in games, most notably as Johnny Silverhand in Cyberpunk 2077, but Lionsgate has not confirmed casting, voice work, or performance capture at this stage.

A Broader Gaming Strategy at Lionsgate

The John Wick project appears to be part of a broader push into gaming at Lionsgate. Alongside Wick, the studio has also referenced potential AAA projects tied to Saw and other properties, with some speculation pointing toward franchises like The Hunger Games. Rather than building games internally, Lionsgate seems focused on licensing its IP to experienced developers, occasionally taking an investment role when it feels it can add creatively.

It’s a familiar challenge when film studios move into interactive projects, where translating cinematic IP into meaningful gameplay often proves harder than expected.

While John Wick is the clearest example so far, Lionsgate’s comments also confirm that a new Saw game is in development as part of the same AAA push. Like the John Wick project, details around the Saw game remain limited, with no developer, platforms, or timeline announced.

For now, the key takeaway is straightforward. An AAA John Wick game is real, it’s in development, and Lionsgate expects to reveal it soon. Until that happens, details around gameplay, scope, platforms, and release timing remain unanswered. Still, for a franchise defined by precise combat, stylish action, and a distinct underworld, the move into a full-scale game feels long overdue, and this project has the potential to become the most complete interactive take on John Wick yet.
