Larian Studios has revealed Divinity, a brand new game set in the world of Rivellon. The announcement arrived with a cinematic trailer shown during The Game Awards 2025. As someone who has followed Larian’s work since the Original Sin days, seeing the studio return to Rivellon felt exciting in a familiar way. With Baldur’s Gate 3 still fresh in people’s minds, this reveal naturally comes with high expectations.
The studio describes Divinity as its most ambitious project to date. The announcement sets the tone with a simple line. The gods are silent. Rivellon bleeds. New powers stir. That alone hints at a darker, more uncertain era for the setting. It also signals that this will not be a small side project. Larian is positioning this as a major evolution of the Divinity universe.
Built by the Team Behind Baldur’s Gate 3
Larian says Divinity is being created by the same team that built Baldur’s Gate 3. The goal is to deliver an RPG with more breadth and depth than anything the studio has attempted before. Even without gameplay details yet, that level of ambition stands out. BG3 set a new bar for character driven RPGs, so hearing Larian talk this way is enough to get long time fans curious.
The studio also confirmed that Divinity is a fresh start. You do not need any prior knowledge from earlier games. That said, those who played Divinity: Original Sin and Divinity: Original Sin 2 will catch additional continuity and world references. It sounds like the team wants to reward returning fans without locking out newcomers. As someone who enjoyed both Original Sin games, that balance feels like the right move.
Swen Vincke on What Divinity Represents for Larian
Swen Vincke, founder and game director at Larian Studios, shared insight into the studio’s approach. He explained that despite Larian’s long history with the series, this is the first game to carry the title “Divinity.” Vincke said the studio is ready to bring everything they have learned into one place. He described the project as something with more breadth, depth and intimacy than anything they have created before.
Vincke noted that this moment has been building ever since Larian took its fate into its own hands. He also added that this is the Divinity they always wanted to make and that fans are going to have a lot of fun with it. Hearing this from someone who has shaped the studio’s direction for years gives the announcement a personal touch.
A Promising New Beginning for Rivellon
Divinity marks a major step forward for Larian Studios. With a new direction, a familiar world and the team behind Baldur’s Gate 3 leading the project, this reveal feels like the start of something big. We will cover every update as Larian shares more details about Divinity in the months ahead.
